Seventies nail string art, Paul Klee and the Namib Desert. That’s what I was thinking of when I designed this gilet.
Usually my designs consist of many repetitions of a smaller design. But the colours I used here reminded me of the vast expanses of the Namib, so I tried out a more “open” design. I wanted the yarn to speak for itself and I wanted to give each colour and textile its own “breathing space”.
I alternated a wool blend, a cotton and bamboo blend and African silk, which is silk yarn handspun in Africa from, well, normal silk worm cocoons.
